Review on Olympus FE 5020 Digital Dark Grey by Gervan Mauldin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

BIG SMALL CAMERA

I love the Olympus FE-5020 so much. It produces very acceptable images for this price range. Olympus is a brand you can rely on. I also have an Olympus Stylus 500 which I bought 5 years ago and have taken a lot of great pictures with. I see that the previous two reviewers have decided to bring their cameras back. Don't let this camera turn you off. When it comes to image quality, I'm very picky. I was a professional photographer for 20 years before I left the business. Of course there will always be cameras that take better pictures, but you can't go wrong in this price range. What I really liked about this camera is the 24mm lens. I also have a Panasonic FZ28 and a Sony HX1 and while they are both excellent cameras they only go down to 28mm at the far end of the zoom. The Olympus FE-5020 fills this gap perfectly. Another thing I like about the FE-5020 is its compact size. It fits in my jacket pocket and will always be with me. This is a bonus as you can't take photos when the camera is at home because you don't want to carry it around. I don't think the controls are too small. I'm a big handed guy with severe carpal tunnel syndrome, but I'm good with camera settings. It's true that you probably need to edit your photos on a computer. I believe the beauty of digital photography lies in the ability to work on a computer and not breathe in the noxious fumes of a darkroom. For me, digital photography is 50% camera work and 50% computer processing. If you don't agree with that, you can look elsewhere. The images I enhance on the computer are great. You can use the free Picasa software or the Olympic Master software that came with your camera. I started with Photoshop Elements 6 and increased the contrast and saturation of the colors. I chose the dark gray FE-5020 because I'm old fashioned and I think the camera should only come in one color - black. I was happy that the dark gray is actually closer to dark blue, so I was pretty close to having a black camera. The Olympus neoprene camera bag advertised by Revain fits the camera perfectly and is very good. I will order another lithium battery as it will run out in about 2 hours of shooting. This would probably take longer for most people, but I always check each image by zooming in and out on the captured image, which uses power. I also walk around with my camera when looking for footage. I hope this information is useful to anyone interested in the camera. I've had mine for about 5 days and I just love it. I will try to post a photo in customer pictures but I have tried this before and my photos are too big to post. Have fun creating pictures. I hope you love photography as much as I do.
