The wire is very thin. You need to be above average at soldering. The pins provided will not work to connect two clamps. The gold pins are not long enough to reach the pins inside. So even if you solder one end and plug in the bare copper pins, you won't be able to connect to the other strip's power supply because the pin headers won't reach into it.
