I originally planned to get the Kamerar Tracking Focus (FF-3) which is responsive and around $150. However, I ultimately decided to switch to Fotasy for several reasons. The Fotasy has a quick release mount, meaning it can be put on or taken off without moving anything from the rails. It also uses a dual rod mount (as opposed to the camera's single mount), which can be seen as a plus or minus - it makes the device a bit heavier, but it also feels extremely secure and there's no risk of falling. The gear wheel is unscrewed from the lens. The Fotasy also has a few features that the camera doesn't have, such as B. hard stops and adjustable gear tension. From all reports the Fotasy FF2B/FF2BK appears to be a clone or rebrand of the Fotga DP500-2. I chose Fotasy over Fotga because I wanted black over blue and Fotga doesn't seem to offer that option. Black is (currently) a bit cheaper and looks very edgy. With the money I saved, I bought some extra gear. I noticed that most of the other reviewers seem to have gone for the blue option, but black is really good if you want a more understated look. The tracking focus itself seems reliable and of high quality. Everything is metal except for the marker ring and gear wheel and everything looks well made and precise. The gearing is practically free of play and the movement of the large focusing wheel is smooth. The thumbscrews used to attach the device to the rails and adjust its position are easy to operate and tightened. Another knurled screw is used to fix the gearbox so that you can easily change its position without tools. When the unit first arrives you may need to tighten the cog - mine was loose at first which resulted in some slippage. I had high hopes for this tracking focus but so far I'm very impressed. It works well, feels solid and looks good. Another reviewer mentioned the packaging and I have to say it was a bit ridiculous. Mine was wrapped in styrofoam and bubble wrap, then mummified with clear tape and tossed in a recycled crate. It arrived in perfect condition but to be honest it looked like it had been boxed by a child. In the long run, however, that's a small price to pay for such good equipment at such a good price.
