They are completely sealed. This is very important to me because I take my lunch to work every day and my containers have leaked so often. I love soup and I usually make a big batch about every 2 weeks and I prefer that for lunch so I use these containers and they are perfect as they are microwavable and airtight. This morning I wrapped my husbands lunch and gave him leftover shrimp and liguini in a container and it was great. I told him to throw it out and it saved me the laundry. I also filled one with diced watermelon for a snack at work and the lids fit just right. I hit it on my desk a couple of times this afternoon and although it banged, no watermelon juice spilled onto my desk or computer. I washed and used these containers several times when I received wonton soup and these containers reminded me of wonton soup containers. They are less expensive than other popular plastic containers and there is a brand of plastic containers that the lids never stay open and things leak and I'd know it! If you're packing lunch for someone or making a big pot of chili or soup, these are the perfect containers to fill and freeze. I have frozen several containers of soup and have had absolutely no problems with it.
