I recently bought five similarly priced smartphone "selfie flashlights" with the intention of keeping one for myself - the one that fits best in my phone case - and custom four more to give away to my friends. I specifically attempted to purchase five different models, realizing that we all have different phones and different cases, to find options that would maximize our chances of finding the right model. They are all rechargeable with short USB cables; none of them require AA or AAA batteries. The two items are nearly identical and arrived in nearly identical packaging. The former is slightly brighter than the latter at all three settings and has a black back. (In fact, this first model was the brightest of the five lamps I compared.) The second has a white back. In both cases, when I tried them on the Galaxy S8's front-facing (selfie) camera lens, I found that the ring's light was so bright and diffuse that it confused the camera's sensors and caused my images to blur were unnecessarily blurred. This product would be better if the light was more clearly directed towards the front of the ring instead of also shining towards the sides. But it's the only model compatible with the Otterbox Commuter case that protects my Galaxy S8 and rear camera. (All five of the models above worked well with the front camera lens.) So I keep this model to myself and pass the rest on to friends.
