It's a decent folio, something that does add value to the whole iPad mini experience. I think it's trying to be different than the Apple branded portfolio for the sake of being different. Does it work in the end though?A folio is something that is ideally minimalist in scope and adds a couple of key functions - namely as a stand and/or a prop. The mechanism here works well, but instead of the trifold cover of the Apple folio this uses a combination of the front cover bending (for a prop) and a rear cover bend for a more vertical stand. This adds to the complexity of the folio and isn't immediately obvious or intuitive. The magnets are similarly decent though they aren't extra-strong. Likely this is because for the front-stand function the cover must be able to partially detach from the body of the iPad, and having extra-strong magnets would make that difficult. However, this also means the back cover is not on as strongly as it perhaps could, or maybe should, be.The differentiating factor here is the Apple Pencil cover, which I really like in theory. The iPad mini is made for maximum portability and having the stylus with it gives one great functionality. The cover is, however, a separate magnetic piece that folds over the open side of the portfolio. Not immediately obvious is what to do with that cover when using the stylus. Do I totally remove the cover? Do I bend it backwards? But doing that kind of messes with the dimensions of the iPad. What?So while I like this cover, I'm not in love with it. It's sturdy, I like that the white wipes clean pretty well, and as I'm a minimalist type I prefer the folio to something like an Otterbox Defender. Frankly if the origami were a little more elegant I'd probably go crazier for it. It's a good folio and an alternative to the Apple Folio, but in my mind it doesn't entirely replace it in terms of minimalist intuitive function.
