Excellent but smelly and possibly broken

1) Wonderful heater but it stinks horribly! It smells like a disgusting unclean barn. 2) Mounting screws look like they are bits and pieces. 3) It looks like the heater has many small cracks. We let it run continuously for 48 hours and the smell lessened but still lingered. It wasn't used for several days and when we turned it on the smell was just as bad as when it arrived. Update: He's been working non-stop in the garage for a week. Without change. They replaced it quickly and without much effort, but the same problem when replacing it.
