Review on πŸ”Š Sonos Play:1 - Compact Wireless Smart Speaker - White (Discontinued by Manufacturer): Powerful Audio and Smart Connectivity in a Stylish Design by Mike Zeigler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is no longer the option it used to be.

The sound quality is excellent but I can't recommend a system based on the software required to control the speakers more highly. The latest software versions that are updated whether you like it or not are unattractive and contain bugs. Sonos' attempt to "improve" the user interface resulted in my speakers being linked to a sonos.com account. You cannot add or change a system without internet access to this account. I bought them to basically play music on my computers and not have to constantly check sonos.com or new unnecessary updates. Their new user agreement also says they can track all my activity or if I don't accept the agreement I won't have access to my speakers! I'm not sure they need it and to be honest I'm tired of companies saying they need to track my online activities. If there is a clear reason and they tell me before I buy, that's one thing. However, do not subsequently amend the agreement to impose such monitoring. I started buying parts for my Sonos system a while ago when there was nothing else like it on the market. Now I have options and will likely buy and recommend other speakers in the future.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Annoying
