My problem with many totes I've seen in stores is that our cats use their paws like fingers and I KNOW they can open many of the totes we've tested. The zippers on these bags are very strong and have strong clips for each hole to keep the zippers closed (close the zippers and thread the clip through the hole in the bottom, not through the tips of each zipper pull, both together - this will hold closed the hole). The mesh and fabric are also scratch resistant. We had to transport 3 cats on an international flight, 14 hours plus flight. who are not appreciated. and not only did these carriers hamper their escape attempts, the various doors allowed each cat to draw attention and/or hide as needed. Backpacks fit snugly under the Economy Plus seat, although you'll lose a significant amount of legroom. On many flights, pets are no longer allowed in Business Class simply because there is no "under the seat” space. Also, because the straps are flexible, it was easier to pick up the entire strap to calm howling cats. Pets cannot be taken out of the carrier during the flight, so I had to keep two of them in the carrier (by petting them through the mesh) for most of the flight, and I appreciated the ability to easily fit the carriers in the confined space to move. . The inner lining was soft for the cats' comfort, and the straps made it easy for us to carry the bags. which is much appreciated as we obviously had other bags as well. Our 11 year old cat was conveniently transported to airports in this carrier. And after the trip? (plus a few vet visits beforehand) These totes still look like new. Keep in mind that collecting isn't exactly easy, but it's worth it. The outside pocket is small but big enough to hold a small leash and something else small like a bag of groceries or other small items like a toy or collapsible drinker. I highly recommend this product.
