I just bought this drive to replace an old drive (bought in 2013) - redundant backup for my audio, video and photo files - that eventually failed. I looked at a few different drives but decided to stick with OWC because I've had good luck with their FireWire portable drives. I thought I made the right choice. How wrong I was - the hard drive failed twice during data transfer. Every time I tried to mount it again with Disk Utility, the disk wouldn't mount and gave an error that it needed to be repaired. Both times the repair failed. I couldn't install it, I deleted it and started over. TWICE. At least with my old failed drive, although I can no longer write to it, I can mount it and copy the data. Not this one. The disc must be defective, which is a big disappointment. I trusted the name OWC. I am returning it and using a different manufacturer's drive. I can't risk my data. A tip for everyone who has important data to protect: redundant backups are worthwhile. Something I learned many years ago.
