Here's what I found out about this cable:

The cable came quickly and once I found it programmed it quickly. However, it took me about two hours to figure it out. Learn from my mistakes so you can get the job done quickly when you get yours. The first thing I found out is that it doesn't work for me on Windows 7. I don't know if this will work with a Windows version between 7 and 10 but I don't think so. I've seen Windows 10 mentioned in a review or cable info, but no mention was made of other Windows versions. None of the programs I tried recognized the cable and radio. It works great with Windows 10. My first real radio reading and writing was with CHIRP. I imported the UV5R file into CHIRP and it loaded perfectly into the radio. After reading the manual I learned that some features of the UV9R radio can only be activated via software and CHIRP has not integrated this option (yet). For example, if you want to show names instead of frequencies on the display, you have to do it in software. Other reviews mention downloading BAOFENG GT3WP software from BAOFENG website. I downloaded and installed it on a Windows 10 computer and was able to enable names and disable voice notifications. This modified the UV5R file I imported. This software immediately recognized the cable and determined which COM port was assigned to it. Once I figured out what the "problems" with the software were, everything worked very well. This is a nice well built cable that comes with a screw to secure the connector to the radio. I like it a lot and now that I know how to use it properly, I'm not averse to changing or updating the frequencies at will.
