These diapers will do the trick and save you so much money (other "higher quality" brands are $12-$22 a diaper - ridiculous). Cloth diapers have been a learning experience for me, but we've been using 100% cloth diapers for eight months now! Definitely consider using a different size or brand for your newborn unless they weigh over 10 pounds (depending on the baby, weight is not always a good indicator of a diaper fit). We used pre-pads and a diaper liner simply because it was so much easier at that point. At about 2.5 months we switched to pocket diapers from Nora Nursery. Knobs are best positioned to avoid leaks! They are highly adjustable and after days of constant diaper changes, finding the right fit becomes second nature. We've found that our diapers perform better throughout the day when the insert is on the inside of the diaper rather than in the pocket itself - a technique that has almost completely eliminated leaks for us and our baby is extremely wet. At night we put a pad in our pocket and the Thirsty Doubler on top of the inside of the diaper (although a second pad on top instead of a double works just as well, just bulkier). Washing is pretty easy if you follow the instructions for a long time - I love that you can wash pads and nappies together! Saves me a bunch of laundry every other day; Some other brands require them to be washed separately to avoid rejection (e.g. Wegreecos). I had some pad repellency due to hard water/mineral buildup, but we simply added more detergent to each wash as recommended by the washing machine manufacturer and found that it mostly solved the problem. The inside of the diaper and pads are white, causing staining. I fix this by hanging my pads and diapers out in the sun from time to time - this also helps get rid of the smell. However, the butt seams of lighter colored diapers (especially white ones) tend to discolor with slightly dirtier/bigger soils and are harder to remove. I have two or three diapers that leak a bit at the butt seams when I decide to just use the pocket and not put a pad on top, but that's out of 28 diapers so can't complain. Being just a diaper is always a leak for us, and Wegreecos are impractical when laundered with pads and diapers as separate loads. Nora Nursery has quality diapers and is our popular brand. Definitely recommend. However, I always recommend splurging on Thirty Pads before bed if you're heavily hydrating like we do to increase absorbency. We just bought eight which is a good amount for two nights of leak protection.
