To be honest, I don't have much experience with portable DVD players, so I don't know what the hundreds of dollar offerings are. it's not like this. But I was very impressed and LOVE this DVD player since we got it. It may be cheaper because it doesn't come with many of the accessories that other DVD players come with, but what it has (headphones, charger, remote control) was all we needed, at least at the time of purchase. Time (we wanted it on a 26 hour flight and they don't have car chargers there anyway). Since we've had it, the DVD player has taken MANY hits, it's been MUCH abused, it's been dropped, it's been stepped on. , (We have an often overzealous 19 month old.) There was a period of about a month where this DVD player played maybe 2-4 hours a day and continued to work great, battery life was great (it can be quite simple to run 2.5 hours at maximum volume.) I agree with other reviewers that the maximum volume isn't great, but when the room is quiet everything is fine, and in noisier environments like a car or plane the headphones work perfect .very loud noise. (Although the quality of the included headphones isn't the best, we have to admit.) Picture quality is also excellent. This DVD player has certainly saved us many times! Now that I own this product and really test it again and again, at this price I will definitely buy it again without batting an eyelid.
