I think that's ok. If you feel a depression in the middle of the sole of the shoe, you will feel a hard plate. This shoe doesn't flex. According to some people, this is good for flat feet. One would expect a higher, stiffer arch from a motion control shoe, but it doesn't. I have motion control shoes and I think I'd like to get away from it. I also like being able to wear something without socks. I do not like it. It's not an abrasive. Everything is OK. Finally, my left foot doesn't fit in this boot at all. That's because I think my arch is flat (and I also have a toy foot). It fills my right leg well. Socks fill out everything better and keep the left heel in place. The shoes are longer than my 11 Rockports and much longer than my Merrell.
