Review on Thirstystone NMC28632 Spoon Rest Grey by Kyle Awasthi

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Case "form " over "function "

This spoon holder is very beautiful and very large. Its size is just what I was looking for when cooking with large utensils. Unfortunately, it does not fulfill its ESSENTIAL function as a spoon rest, as it stains INCREDIBLY easily with most common cooking ingredients (e.g. butter, red sauce, etc.). I don't stick a spoon in it even a full minute, and then I clean the spoon rest and it still leaves a noticeable stain. I've since tried removing the stain with vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and Oxiclean, all to no avail. If a product does not fulfill its main function, it is useless. Another reviewer says it's unwise to get upset about stains and that we should treat the product with mineral oil before use. I totally disagree. If a product requires this treatment even just to fulfill its primary function, then it must #1: be prominently advertised as such #2: already have this treatment applied. Every wooden cutting board I've bought is pre-treated with mineral oil for this very reason. The same should apply here.
