Better Bags: Grocery Containers

I've been washing disposable plastic bags for years because it's such a waste to throw away, but they eventually wear out too much and get thrown away. I have long dreamed of a heavier and more durable bag. I LOVE these bags. They stay fresher longer in the freezer and I like that they are thicker and sturdier than disposable bags. Someone in the reviews mentioned ice crystals on their homemade dog food after 3 days in the freezer in these bags and called it freezer burn. This is NOT freezer burn. If there was moisture in the food and air in the bag, ice crystals would form naturally - probably a vacuum seal would be the only way to avoid ice crystal formation. Just try to find a bag of frozen vegetables without ice crystals in the store - I dare you twice. Freezer burn is a nasty condition that causes food to dry out in the freezer for long periods of time. When I buy frozen fruit or veg, I put them in these bags right away instead of keeping them in their original packaging. I have noticed that my freezer has lost that weird freezing smell after using these bags, which makes me very happy. Sometimes I have to patiently unpick the edge of a seam because I wish my fingers were stronger (I have older hands with mild arthritis), but I'd rather have a bag with a tight seal than one with a poor seal. You'll be spending upwards of $20 on disposable bags year-round, so why not give them a try?
