There is a strong smell of plastic after opening the package. The woman was concerned, and the son, for whom the boots were intended, was delighted - he said he smelled like new boots! They feel quite sturdy and thick, and the handles are a great way to help him get dressed. I'm not sure if they are too big or just uncomfortable for him, but after wearing them for a while he found them difficult to walk in and eventually decided he didn't want to wear them again. Had high hopes for it. but apparently not impressed. I would recommend something of higher quality.
