Something to think about

It was ambivalent for us. We bought these for our 6 year old daughter's birthday because she has been asking for walkie talkies for a long time. She loved it and we read the instructions and taught her how to use them very easily. She and our youngest daughter took her to play. We live in a fairly remote area surrounded by trees and they had great reception. Later that afternoon my daughter brought her to me, very upset because "you won't stop talking to me!" There must have been a man trying to talk to her and asking what her name was and where she is. I take 100% responsibility for not considering that these are not private channels that only work between two devices. I was shocked that someone could hear them from afar through the trees they must have been hiding. It probably could have been harmless - someone tried to tell us that this is the channel used by their family, but in any case it was very confusing. You have the option to block a channel so they can't be changed, but that doesn't mean someone else will be blocked from the channel. Again, it's not the manufacturer's fault, it's me as a parent who didn't fully consider the implications of giving my 6-year-old a communication device. The product works exactly as advertised but as a parent I would not buy it if someone else gave such a review. We also have friends who live in town who bought them and had the same issue with a man trying to talk to their daughters. I do not advise against buying them, but I would like to draw your attention to the fact that they are very affordable! (We saved them for my husband to use on hunting/long trips when we drive different cars as we move quite often.)

Pros
  • That's amazing
Cons
  • Everything's great
