It's definitely brighter than the bulb in my Makita 18V flashlight. However, where an incandescent bulb had a wide beam pattern, it produces a much narrower and more focused beam due to the style and placement of the LED on the base. Good for distance but not for illuminating objects within 10 feet or so. For example, it wouldn't be good to work under the car in low light because it's basically a headlight.
