Review on πŸ’‘ Directional Downlight - LightingWill 3000K/3500K Equivalent by Djuan Thompson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Faulty first light, second order worked for a while, wrong specs

I can't turn them on. I have confirmed that the input is 120V. The LED drivers are warm to the touch but the light does not come on. I saw a light go on and off a few times after a minute of connection but then nothing. I'm very experienced with high and low voltage installations and can't believe I'm missing something as simple as connecting L and N directly to 110V. Email the seller and hope it does gives a solution while i pre-drilled 2 "holes in the joinery. The order arrived in a few weeks. UPDATE --- The seller was quick to respond and advised me to replace the order so it shipped from the US. The new lamps had quality control stickers on the outside of the boxes (the originals didn't have them) and the new units worked. Based on the experience of manufacturing both high and low voltage electronics, this should have been a quality control issue with the units shipped. from overseas that may have missed quality control or come from an inventory failure or repair (my guess). I didn't spend time investigating whether it was the LED or the driver on the first few units that failed, you'd expect what the factory/seller will do What to do. I've increased my rating from one star to three based on the seller's quick and helpful responses and working replacements. NOTE - The cutout diameter is NOT 2" as stated in the seller's description! I used a 2" hole saw on a milling machine. When I started inserting fasteners into the 2" hole, the springs extend beyond the 2" hole on either side (see my photo). Now I need to 1/2 "Cut and trim" an inch of woodwork to accommodate the springs. In addition, the LEDs feel solid and well constructed. I like the size and the ability to tilt the light. The LED drivers appear to be a little less quality, but they seem to work .I used the little plastic boxes mentioned in another review to keep my high voltage connections going inside the mill.Really easy electrical installation - brown wire to neutral and blue wire to hot (which is why I was so disappointed with my first experience was!).Currently on a switch but will be upgrading to a Lutron dimmer.Disappointed with all the extra work I've done to get them back in place bring to. And a little concerned that the replacement might fail prematurely given my quality experience. Will be updated if necessary. SECOND UPDATE May 2018 - Starting with 8 LEDs and ending with 3 working LED drivers.

Pros
  • Recessed lighting
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
