MANDATORY for digital cameras

This review is intended for the serious or intermediate amateur photographer who has occasionally sold a photo or published his work in various media from time to time but does not make photography for a living . I've been using Nikon since 1954, both lenses and camera bodies. I spent most of my time with film, waiting for the digital results to come close to the quality of the Kodachrome etc that I wanted. digitally on a NIkon 8700 I bought a D200 but as a cameraman I found its limitations a bit unsatisfying, also with a large collection of prime AIS lenses the 1.5 crop factor was annoying to improve results, especially for older cameramen. If you have an extensive range of pre-autofocus prime lenses, the camera can provide a useful focusing aid if you follow a few simple programming steps. Additionally, FX allows the use of the full range of prime lenses, as well as many modern lenses. While I continue to use the D200 with a DX lens for certain applications, the D700 is business as usual. with a heavy road o For mass events with select close-ups as well as some architecture, I usually carried two film cameras with zoom lenses set at the desired focal lengths. (By architecture I mean the ability to use a 200mm focal length to capture the intimate details of things like the Gothic cathedrals of France, as well as general views in the 35-50mm range (perhaps with a prime lens).) To have comparable coverage of these applications today I wonder if Nikon's new 28-300mm VR eliminates the need for a second D700 with a wonderful new 16-35mm lens for those special little details. I ignore the overlap for conversational purposes. Maybe other shooters have an idea about this problem. To put the new D700's price in perspective, consider how much you would have paid for an F3HP in today's dollars in the early '80s. While there are rumors of a rumored release of the D800 in late summer or early fall of 2011, if the photography award is what interests you most, enjoying the results of the FX shouldn't be put off.
