It came needing assembly which would have been difficult for me, but my boys are good at such things and it went together fairly quickly and easily. Seems sturdy and large enough for my purpose, so that's okay. I don't have room for anything larger on my desk. What I do NOT like is the visible hardware holding this together. I didn't see it in the item's description before purchasing. If I had, I would probably not have purchased it as I prefer clean lines and hidden structure. Mine doesn't smell. For the price, I will keep it and use it until it falls apart.
