I don't know what the person who designed these string lights was thinking, but there's not much point in turning them on with the remote control control, and then select the appropriate mode each time. Some memory settings can be recalled when the timer has been pressed and then reactivated with the "Timer" button. I cut the wires and make my own circuit that has a voltage regulator, a current regulator, a twilight sensor and a battery that gets charged by the solar panel during the day. I also covered them with marine varnish as the previous exact same string rusted immediately.
