but not very good for my application. I held the power better with $8 from China

I bought these to do small precision drilling - 1.5mm bits in FR4. They are high quality but not very suitable for my application. I have better holding power with the Chinese $8. It's too easy for bits to slip out of the spindle with this Starrett vise. In order for the bit to stay, you have to twist the collet with pliers, which will scratch and damage the serrated surface. They look very nice but are not functional. The cheap Chinese ones have spring loaded spindles which probably won't last as long but actually work much better.
