I needed a switch to automatically turn the light on when we go into the garage and off when we leave the car. We also make numerous trips to the garage fridge and trash cans. This little switch does just that and was pretty easy to install. I plugged into the garage's smoke detector outlet and added a new LED above the steps. The fire alarm box had the black, white, and ground wires I needed. I used a small piece of aluminum bracket for assembly. Wiring was easy. All white (common) wires are connected together (light, smoke sensor and switch), black wires (switch and smoke sensor), ground wire (light and switch), and the red wire goes to the black wire of the LED light. I set the timeout to 10 minutes, a fairly high sensitivity, and maximum ambient light because I want the light to be on all the time.
