I had two controllers; the first one was a Chinese knockoff that I purchased for over $1600 about a year ago; the second one was an authentic one that I purchased for over $1800 about three months ago. At first glance, the difference is quite significant; in fact, it is difficult to differentiate between the two. Following that, I will highlight the primary considerations that should guide your decision regarding the original controller. The original product comes with a driver disk, but the knockoff does not. The box is red and made of cardboard, and it is covered in transparent plastic. The Chinese version of the box is somewhat slimmer but otherwise identical. In the Chinese version, the sticks, the crosspiece, and the triggers are gray, but in the original, they are black, matching the color of the case. Backlight (all around the X emblem) in the original four uniformly glowing quarter-circles, written in Chinese as just four round diodes (noticeable only when connected). There is a round connector on the wire of the original gamepad that is located closer to the USB "plug." If you pull the pad, the connector will disconnect, but part of the cord will remain connected to the computer. The Chinese version does not have this feature. The Chinese rope, by the way, has a rather pungent odor; the author of the original text missed this detail. The back of the genuine is black, but the back of the fakes is gray. There are three stickers located behind the controllers. There is a hologram sticker, a barcode sticker, and a huge sticker that contains information. In contrast, the authentic item has a huge sticker that is black and does not undergo any changes over the course of three months, whereas the counterfeit item has a large sticker that is gray and peels off after a few of weeks. The upper end of the original joystick is glossy and black, and it has the word XBOX360 written on it. The Chinese version, on the other hand, is gray and does not have any writing on it. The primary drawback of using a controller that is not the original is that the fake sticks are made of plastic and wadded, that it is difficult to get used to them, and that sometimes they behave stupidly in games. At home, the triggers and sticks are both rubberized and elastic; as a result, they are able to work with a little more force, more smoothly, and with a great deal more precision. The original is defined by Windows as "XBOX360 Controller for Windows" and nothing else, but the fake might be anything (for example, "XBOX360 controller", etc.). This gamepad is currently the greatest controller for PC games, and I hope that by reading this review, you will be able to tell the real thing from the knockoffs, so saving your nerves and your money.
