Review on DECOMIL Samurai Stackable Wobble Free Capacity by Toni Chapman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well built. Stackable with support.

I bought several of these wine racks to stack to create a single 8 foot floor to ceiling wine rack in my basement. You are perfect for me. Material: artificial bamboo. Essentially bamboo plywood: bamboo backing impregnated with an adhesive and pressed together into engineered wood. Much stronger than regular wood despite its thinner appearance. Joints: crosswise in half, with fairly good tolerance so that the block is sufficiently stable even without glue if it separately has up to 8 shelves or so on a perfectly flat surface. Stackable: This wine rack is not designed to be used in a version with more than 72 bottles and 8 rows. This limitation is not strength but stability. I'd even tie a 72-bottle block to the wall at the top of the block as it's easy and there's a lot of wine at stake, not to mention a safety hazard if a toddler tries to use it. like a climbing gym or something. Appearance: unfinished bamboo plywood construction. Well maintained; Very clean. Although technically unfinished, the surface is smooth and dense. Assembly: trivial. Place the wine stringers on the side supports - a small scallop in front for the neck of the bottle; large shell on the back for the wine bottle body. Notes on stacking shelves: (This is my personal approach; use care!) I sealed every joint with stretchable polyurethane glue - I used Gorilla Genuine Glue. I think polyurethane glue works best because when you wet the seams, the glue expands, filling in the voids and stabilizing the seam. Good adhesion is difficult to achieve with artificial bamboo, but here the only goal that is needed is a little stabilization of the connection. I placed 60 pounds of weight on the top shelf after assembling each block of 72 bottles to squeeze the connections. It is important that each unit is perfectly level, vertical and square while the adhesive cures. My finished shelf is 18 rows high - 162 bottles. IMPORTANT: My shelf is STRONGLY attached to the floor and ceiling. If you don't, stacking these wine racks poses a serious safety hazard! But if you mount the shelf properly (either to the wall studs or up and down, I personally don't think 500 pounds or so of wine with a fully loaded shelf will create too much vertical load, assuming your build is level, plumb and square - and provided you glue the joints to stabilize the wobble. My 2c and YMMV only.I find this frame much better than some pine alternatives and am very happy with my purchase.
