I purchased this product because when my dishwasher was turned on water flowed from the vent into the sink. The tool must be inserted into the large slot of the air vent. Not a small hole. The tool worked perfectly and I was stunned by the amount of meanness being squeezed into the garbage chute. The length is good and I could see it was tucked into the garbage disposal area. Use a rag or paper towel to cover the end when you pull it out as it will splatter a bit. Rinse and save for future use. The stinky smell near the sink is gone so I'm going to add this to my yearly cleaning routine. I have not used it for any other purpose. hope this helps you I would buy again.
