Review on BASSTOP Translucent DIY Replacement Housing Shell Case for NS NX Switch Console - Console-Jungle Green by Dave Mosby

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very nice, well made but do your homework before fitting

Update, a year later: downside in the long run is the letters above the ABXY keys are worn out. Whatever printing method they use for the letters, it's not durable enough. I'm not deducting a star for that (assuming the original has a 4 1/2 and that earns it a 4). In general still satisfied. The cases seem to be of the same quality as the standard Joycon cases and look super good on my Switch. There were no issues with sticking buttons, it all came up. Installation took longer than expected as the right joystick was slightly miscast and required sanding to fit, see Installation section below. I would probably give five stars if it wasn't necessary. Installation Three important installation notes. First, and perhaps most importantly, the right joystick (for me and others) next to the plus (+) button is too tight and needs sanding down. down so that the splint is properly seated. Remove the rail from the joycon and check that it is properly seated. If not, there is a single edging between the plus (+) and Y buttonholes that is slightly thicker at the base. See photo below. Grind it carefully until the slat is right. Second, the internal parts of a joycon are VERY tiny and can be a bit fragile. Watch the gap first, take your time and be careful. All straps are locked, make sure to reverse the locking tabs before removing and reinserting, and make sure they are locked back after reinserting. Do not pull on the internal plastic parts (with Z-buttons and battery holder) as these are attached to the logic board from below with a ribbon cable. When installing outer sheaths, pay attention to the placement of ribbon cables. Third, you will need a custom triangular screwdriver as well as a Phillips 00 screwdriver. These are readily available here at Revain, just search for "Nintendo Switch Screwdriver". The good news is that the manufacturer includes replacement screws for reassembly with the same 00 Phillips head as the internal screws. Note that there are two lengths inside; Make sure you keep track of which length goes where. Oh, and obviously installing it will void the warranty. Cosmetics. See photo. I love how they look! I chose these colors (white with colored buttons) because of the resemblance to the Super Famicon controller. The only thing I can say is that on very light colors the letters are very light and not very legible. button B special; White on yellow is very difficult to see. That's why Super Famicon put letters on the body, not buttons! This is a minor thing though, as I know where my buttons are. Spider The Spider (the whole reason I bought it, to be honest) is good, about as good as you would expect from a Spider. the need to install on existing equipment. The center of the d-pad is designed to fit the center of the rubber underneath, which is close to the feedback of a regular d-pad. It's very nice to have my D-Pad back, especially with the nice Nintendo buttons underneath.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Easily repairable
