Review on ๐Ÿ“บ Enhance Your Viewing Experience with the Philips DVP3980 Hi-Def 1080p Up-Conversion DVD Player by Elmito Yeager

Excellent PAL/NTSC Upconverting Player

Pros: Can play both NTSC and PAL DVDs. Cannot set a region by setting the region to 0 in the settings menu (see "Otherโ€ below). Great pictures from regular DVDs via HDMI (with 1080p upconversion). Connects to TVs old and new with composite, component, HDMI + stereo analog, and coaxial digital audio. There are many options in the menu to set up HDMI video/audio as well as digital and analog video/audio. The firmware is upgradable and can be downloaded from the Philips.Con website: the remote control is the only scam I've found so far. Looks cheap and is really cheap. You have to sit directly in front of the player to control it and it takes a while for the player to respond after pressing a button on the remote control. I haven't had a chance to test with a universal remote that could have worked better. Other: I've only had the DVP3980/37 for a few days, so I can't comment on its reliability. But judging by most of the reviews I've read on the internet, there haven't been many complaints about its reliability. Simply open the disc tray, click "Settings", then go to the "Settings" menu and enter 138931 on the remote control to magically access the region setting. I would like to thank Revain.com for the lowest price I could find and great shipping. Now that BD players can be bought for around $200, I don't want to spend more than $50 on a non-BD player, and that fits perfectly. BTW, I used a $3 HDMI cable, not a $50 cable from a reputable company, to connect the player to my LCD TV.
