Review on Dorman 917 551 Shifter Rebuild Kit by Louis Asok

Stop your bouncing shifter!

I purchased this kit after finding play in my Mazda B2300 shifter. The kit contains everything needed to replace the worn parts that are causing this, including what looks like polyurethane compared to the original rubber. So it should last longer than original parts. Very easy installation. If you can change the oil yourself, you should be able to do it in about 30 minutes. Remove the Phillips screws holding the cup holders and switch bezel and pull the switch and housing all the way up to expose the assembly to be replaced. There is a fairly large nut on the right side of the switch base. Take it off and pull it out the other side. As you tighten the nut, it begins to pull the bolt. Knock out the remainder with a hammer and punch to remove the shift knob. You'll need a torx bit to remove the next piece (I forgot, I think it was t35) then just note the order of the pieces afterwards. I think the hardest part is getting to the bottom. Make sure you remember which gear it was in before removing the parts. If you forget it, it can be difficult to put it all back together. If you have questions, there are several Ford Ranger websites you can use for more detailed instructions than what is included in the kit. I've done this job before and the instructions that came with it didn't make much sense to me. Youtube also has great videos. As a result, the shift feel is significantly better and the lever doesn't jump when I hit bumps. If your Ranger/Mazda has over 100,000 miles it will likely make a difference and make it like new again.
