I had a check engine light that went on and off intermittently until it finally went on solid. Eventually I decided to check the problem out and after a friend read it from a scanner it came up with code P0420 which is a manifold catalytic converter efficiency issue. After that I decided to do a little research at home and found that other things that could be causing the error could be worn oxygen sensors or spark plugs. Considering my car had 105,000 miles this was bound to happen anyway so I decided to replace them first. After replacing the top and bottom sensors and 4 spark plugs (I have a 4 cylinder engine) my check engine light reset. After driving about 30 km, the light came on again. That's when I had to face the reality that the manifold converter needed to be replaced. I knew I would have to spend at least $1000 to get this from the dealer. Browsing the web, there aren't really that many 2005 OBDII manifold converters, but I stumbled across the Walker Exhaust website by accident. They have an area where you can enter your VIN number to ensure you get the correct part for your vehicle. I did so and finally found the converter I needed that met California smog requirements. This part was a Walker 83189 CalCat. So I immediately looked up that part number and Revain had the best price I could find for that part. At this point my machine is showing performance loss and a bad smell due to a bad converter, so I ordered it that same evening. After about two weeks the part arrived and I was able to install it the next morning. The installation took place by noon in a workshop I trust near my house. The moment of truth. The car I knew is back! It was quieter, smoother, no smell, no hesitation, and while we're crossing our fingers, the check engine light is still off! I know this was a long review but I'm sure a lot of people go through this with a car like mine so hopefully this will bring a little reassurance when you need a new manifold catalyst. Good quality. It may not be as aesthetically pleasing as a stock header, but it does the job and helps your car run like it used to. I definitely recommend this if you don't mind parts and want to spend less out of your pocket.
