AWESOME sound and versatility for the price! Some quirks of course, but suits my needs!

I have owned a Lepai bluetooth amplifier very similar to this one for many years and I have loved it. It was a little more expensive, had fewer features, but the Bluetooth connectivity was IMPRESSIVE and the sound was just as amazing. Fast forward a few years, move to a new house, and the poor amp eventually dies. I decided to give this one a try rather than buying the same old one as before because not only was this one cheaper but it seemed to have a lot more features and functionality including a remote control that my old one didn't have. My setup is to stash this in a kitchen cupboard and hook it up to a set of Mission speakers on the countertop. Here's what I like and dislike about this amp: Pros: Awesome sound - isn't that the most important thing? I used this amp with the same pair of speakers as my old amp and the sound was just as good if not better than the old amp. The possibilities are endless. Imagine what makes it really very versatile and useful! For me, Bluetooth is basically what I use it for, so I can't speak well of the other modes, but I love that they're built-in! beautiful, especially for those of us who just want to hide it! Quality - This is a very well made amp and nothing about it feels cheap or underpowered. It's durable and reliable and I think it will hold up well over time. I think for the most part it's well designed and positioned, and the display is bright and sharp. Easy to use. The instructions that come with this amp are clear and easy to follow, but I like when the device is so intuitive that I don't need instructions. It definitely applies to this amp and I appreciate it. As for things that I don't really like or that I think could be improved or at least should be noted by those who are going to buy them. Claims 65+ feet. My old amp could easily remain connected to the unit if it was anywhere on the same level of the house. This one could barely make 36 feet without carving (I measured), even with the cabinet door open. It's frustrating that I can't leave the kitchen or dining room without losing signal when my old amp had much better connectivity. Watch my video for this exact demo. Remote control. While I love that it comes with a remote control, I find it 100% useless for my purposes. Contrary to what the other reviewer said, it CAN adjust the volume, but not with the cabinet door closed and only when the remote is pointed DIRECTLY at the sensor. In addition, you cannot completely turn off the device with the remote dose. The power button just puts it to sleep, but the backlight stays on. You have to press the power button on the device itself to actually turn it off. No settings storage - this is really annoying. On the front of the device there is a rotary wheel that can be used to select different modes. I leave this choice in the MP3 wireless settings (Bluetooth) and yet every time I turn on the unit it starts searching and finds "No Disc". I have to manually press the "Mode" button (other than the spin wheel) to switch to Bluetooth mode. At this point the amp will remember and reconnect to my iPhone on its own. After this booster, the response of my device (a new iPhone 8 256GB, currently running iOS 11.2.1) suddenly becomes terribly sluggish, especially when it comes to switching tracks. It's so slow that I often end up clicking the button too many times, thinking my response won't be logged. It's also a little annoying, although I usually just shuffle the playlist and don't have to skip tracks. Pressing the play and pause buttons is also still sluggish. I have no idea why that is. Despite all that, for the price you pay, the sound of this amp is truly phenomenal and it works well enough for my needs and more! I think most people who buy it will be very happy with its performance, EQ options and connectivity, especially if you are new to the wonderful world of small bluetooth amps. I definitely recommend it! And for the record, I paid full price for it with no compensation or incentive to write a review. Hope that helps!

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
