Great Basic Android Auto Head Unit - Buy

Socket First I would like to comment on another review that said the metal bracket felt flimsy and that there was a lot of flex when pressing the buttons. I think either this person looked at the block and thought it was weak without trying, or they removed all the set screws and forgot to put them back in. The screen is supported by a metal bracket but is very durable. The only way to bend it is to press hard or use a 10 pound rubber mallet to pound through the knobs. I took the risk of doing it with a brand like Alpine or Pioneer and I'm very happy. Originally I was thinking of getting a 7" unit until I went to BB and compared the car stereos at the store. The 10" units are much more impressive and the 7" units seem small in comparison. With adapter kits from Metra and Scosche and a few helpful YouTube videos on removing the body shell and OEM radio, the ATOTO F7 installs fairly easily and fits flush into the dash There's a metal bracket supporting the screen, but you can't see it unless you specifically approach the unit from the side. The night before installation I used heat shrink sleeves to connect all the wires.which took about 2 hours.I then removed the standard radio and fitted this which took another 2 hours I could install it quicker but I took the time to organize and tie up unused cables and adjust the fit to even align the bezel perfectly en you don't normally see (my inner monk). The screen is bright, sharp and easy on the eyes. Restricted apps are easy to select and use. I like this simple layout over the more complex but full-featured Android device. What made me give 5 stars is the ease of Android Auto integration/implementation. I have occasional problems with my wife's newer car with AA on the stock car unit, but the ATOTO F7 has never given me any problems. I plug in my phone and AA starts right away. Of the two minor issues I've noticed, the first is Android Auto (not on this main unit). When I set a destination on my phone's map, it doesn't automatically send when I connect and use AA. You must manually enter or select an address on a fresh map on the AA screen. The second issue is related to ATOTO: when I use the left/right arrows to navigate from preset radio stations to preset radio stations, it doesn't show which station I've selected until I exit AA. In my wife's car there is a blank space at the top of the screen for information such as radio station number/name. It would be great if ATOTO didn't create AA in full screen but instead had a window at the top reserved for displaying radio station information or any other information about the radio device. I haven't tried using the SD or USB memory card feature for music or media, and I haven't used the backup camera insert (my car has a backup camera on the rearview mirror). I can't speak or rate these features. If you're looking for a good base unit that works well and performs well, and you think your car's layout will fit a 10-inch screen, then get this one.
