It's not Alinco or Kenwood, but neither is the price. They are perfect for what I wanted them for.

Great radios for the price. They're not Kenwood, but neither is the price. Once I got out the microscope to read the instructions, I proceeded to download the Chirp software onto my computer to program it, only to find that its use is not for the faint-hearted, impatient, or beginner. Once I get it you can program these radios while you sleep! The user information on the Chirp site is sorely lacking, but if you tinker with it long enough, you can be comfortable. Keep in mind that Chirp allows you to "extend" the frequency range of these radios from 1MHz to 1000MHz, but they actually only work between 131,000MHz and 545.955MHz. The front panel frequency display reads outside of these limits, but outside of the stated operating limits the transceiver is outside of its operating ranges. I like these radios because I wanted to use them as both bass scanners and communicators. You won't be able to find 2 handheld scanners with loads of extras that came with them for less than $85. Haven't had a chance to try a bunch on them but if I don't come back here in 2 weeks to complain about them you'll know they're good.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Outdoor
