Review on ๐Ÿ“ธ Canon EOS 77D Kit EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Camera - Black: Powerful Photography in a Compact Package by Ha Joon แ Œ

Reliable purchase, guaranteed to be a good purchase.

Initially, I knew what I was buying, before that I used a lot of cameras, from time to time switching to more expensive models since my school days, ranging from film cameras to full-frame cameras. It was up to this camera (77D) that I used a bunch of 6D and 100D cameras. Sotka is a very compact and cool camera. I often shot on it on trips, when I was too lazy to carry 6d with 4 heavy lenses with a total weight of 4-5 kg. It didnโ€™t matter to me what to shoot on, given that I knew all the nuances and characteristics of cameras and lenses. It was not difficult to get the result I wanted. Both at work and for a family album and travel. I decided to sell the old cameras and take something new, while I already knew for sure that there was no point in taking a full frame. Another moment was that I wanted to get essentially a hybrid of my two cameras, i. E. to be sure to have all the amenities to which you are already accustomed. This is a touch screen, wifi, a monochrome screen (I strongly doubted it, I didnโ€™t know about the existence of 760D or 77D, I expected that I would have to take something from the 80D or 7D mark ii series). I searched for a long time until I came across the 77D. Considering that the camera is also modern, with all the resulting ates and plus the average price on the market (with almost similar characteristics to 80d, the price is very attractive). Therefore, I already clearly knew which camera I was going to take. I bought it in the spring of 2022, since there were none in our stores, I decided to order it, and as a result, I managed with all the discounts from American sites at $ 580 per carcass. I sold my old cameras very profitably, since I always use equipment very carefully, they were in perfect condition. And the purchase of 77D did not hit the pocket, besides, I decided to sell my heavy lenses, leaving only canon 24 f2.8 stm and sigma 30mm f1.4 art from the 100d park and bought a canon 55-250 from above. As a result, a very good bundle came out both for travel and for rare commercial filming if necessary.

Pros
  • 1. Size: Great camera size, not too small, but not too big. Just right for the right hand grip and for the location of the necessary controls. 2. Management: There are all the necessary buttons, instead of the usual cross, a scrolling wheel, which is used in the control to change the aperture values. The top wheel is used for exposure and next to the standard iso button. Three main commonly used variables and everything in its place, even the power button, although many will disagree with this. There is also a button to lock the main wheel. 3. Additional screen with data: There is an additional monochrome screen, of course it is not as informative as on older models, but everything you need is there (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, number of remaining frames, battery, and the rest is not so much needed). It really helps to save battery power, I practically donโ€™t use the main screen, I shoot only according to the indicators of the additional screen and information in the viewfinder. 4. Rotary screen: Canon has a strong point, the most convenient swivel screen. When you put it in a bag, turn it and close it with the back side, it serves as an additional screen protection, when you need to open it to the side and turn the screen towards you to shoot in uncomfortable positions. 5. Focus: there are 45 cross points, after 9 points with 1 cross it is heaven and earth of course. Although I use only the central one and, as an Old Believer, I focus first in the center and then I frame the frame compositionally. But in some cases it helps a lot, in the same landscapes or dynamic scenes. Dual Pixel is really cool when you want smooth focusing, videographers get high on manuals)). 6. Wireless: there is wifi (convenient in conjunction with a tablet), bluetooth (with a bt remote control, controlling the camera becomes much more convenient than with an IR remote control), nfc (this function is for those who need a quick connection to the camera) 7. Touch screen It is very convenient to select the focus point in Live View or video mode, also for viewing photos.
Cons
  • for me personally, no, I was ready for anything, I can only describe the alleged "shortcomings": - the battery, it is very small, although they could have done more, but then the size of the handle would have changed, on the other hand, ergonomics have improved due to a thicker grip, although who knows. But due to the monochrome screen, this is not a minus, but a well-thought-out move. For me personally, one charge is enough for 800 frames, plus two additional batteries in reserve, of course, after 6d with its 1800-2022 frames it loses a lot, but 800 is a strong indicator. - shutter speed 1/4000, to be honest, a fictional minus, given that in real life 1/8000 is required in very rare cases, and then with lenses with an aperture of 1.4 or more. In my entire life, I shot at a shutter speed of 1/8000 only once in a commercial shoot. - video stabilization, the fact is that it crops the video programmatically (fortunately, you can turn off this function) to compensate for shaking, but I didnโ€™t take the camera for video, especially when there is lens stabilization, this is not a problem
