Definitely avoids having to tie shoes. Better instructions would help. First, do not cut the laces too short, as I did and now am considering a repurchase to get new laces. After cutting the laces, the ends fray, making it impossible to relace the shoe; easy solution, light the lace end with a match and the end becomes hard and firm, no fringe to interfere with lacing. The end piece locks the laces together, but they pull out too easily with pressure. To fix that, put the laces through the locking pieces, then tie a simple knot in each lace (preventing it from pulling back through the locking piece) and then attach the end piece. That piece is easy to open with a small screwdriver; insert into the piece, twist and lift gently and it pops open.
