After many years of excellent service I have had to replace my Panasonic OTR microwave (no longer available in the US) with an LG LMV2031 microwave. The LG fitted into the space my Panasonic occupied without remodeling tiles or cabinets. The only thing I didn't like about LG was the halogen lighting. When using surface light, the inside of the microwave got quite hot. I looked around and found that this lamp has a flat narrow base which is necessary for the outlet in my microwave oven which was designed for a G8 base xenon lamp. The only problem is the flicker. Many microwave ovens are cheaper and use a diode dimmer that bisects the full wave of the AC current, causing flickering and sometimes buzzing in the LEDs. These lamps dim without flickering or buzzing. I originally had a 5000K bulb but found it too bright and bluish so I went back and got a 3000K warm white light which I find very satisfying. This corresponds to area light. For the interior lighting you need a different base lamp. The only thing I don't like is that I have to buy 6 packs when I only need one. Still makes sense considering the $13 LG halogen bulb from Revain, but now I have to save the remaining 5 bulbs in case the bulb I'm using isn't likely to fail.
