This thin and compact laptop has a 6-core turbo processor up to 5 GHz, a 2070 super processor and all the LEDs to put the carnival in a widescreen laptop to light. Weight and performance mean business, although the loud startup sound and fireworks on the keyboard betray a little more whimsicality. It can perfectly fill both niches and also replace a portable desktop computer. I say portable, but at a very scant 5 pounds (feels much heavier) and a 4 hour battery life, this isn't your typical laptop. Between the low base speed of the CPU and various tricks with the max Q used by the GPU, it can and will go to great lengths to ensure that portability. The most obvious is the 230W PSU, which is ridiculous for a laptop, but the GPU alone can draw more on a desktop, but upgradability is another issue. While Acer has been kind enough to leave a vacant m.2 slot for an NVMe SSD and include a relatively easy-to-remove bottom panel, the SSD sits on top of the motherboard. So you have to unscrew about 20 screws, disconnect two batteries, a few ribbon cables, and even an LCD panel connector, all held together with extra tape, just to get at this m.2-free drive. Once there, it's an easy upgrade, but then you have to put everything back together. All the different ribbon cables use slightly different latches, and the keyboard and LCD panel latches have proved tricky for me. After a few tries everything worked. However, I never want to have to deal with it again. FYI, the storage is two 8GB sticks, and the SSD that came with it was a WD Black SSD. Shit) is a one time pain. I quickly removed everything, updated Windows, added Steam/Epic/Origin and launched the game. The GPU is a beast for 1080p and would be out of place without a 300Hz screen. Tony Hawk has never felt so responsive! The screen is slick and bright, but somehow lacks HDR. Too bad. Brilliance: Loads of desktop performance in a thin laptop. The games are great and always will be. Beautiful screen with G-Sync. A very balanced car. However, the SSD fills up quickly) Geforce Experience makes it easy to optimize games. Plenty of ports, especially video-out. Fast WiFi and wired network. Free m.2 slot. Not so good: bloated with unnecessary software. Do a lot on the go. Cons: Leave an empty m.2 slot but place it on top of the motherboard. It's a strong contender for those looking for a solid 1080p gaming laptop that's been running the best games on a very decent 1080p screen for years. For me, this is a huge upgrade for my Skylake/Maxwell HP Omen system and almost as fast as my 1080ti and Broadwell-E desktop.
