When my house was built, we had an Aprilaire 500 Nin fan mounted on top. Finally decided to add one below. I'm happy with the results and was able to do a do-it-yourself install with some discoveries that might help others. First of all, I would say that the installation effort is above average. An experienced homeowner can certainly do this, but if you don't have any electrical, plumbing, trimming, etc. experience, you can hire someone. I bought the version with an automatic hygrostat. What I didn't realize until I spent a lot of time wiring and troubleshooting was that I could save time and money by having an Ecobee smart thermostat. If you have an Ecobee or Nest it works too, you don't even have to buy or connect a humidistat. You don't need to connect the transformer included in the kit. Simply connect three wires to the "c" socket on your stove and to the Aux+ socket on your thermostat. Set your thermostat so it knows you have a humidifier and the wiring is okay. The thermostat already knows the humidity in your house and the outside temperature, so there is no need to connect a return hygrostat or outside temperature sensor. None of this is mentioned in the installation guide. However, there are some good videos if you are looking for an Aprilaire Ecobee installation. Now that it's installed, it works beautifully. My original is over 20 years old and runs strong. I expect this to serve me just as well.
