This bag worked great. At Southwest it was allowed to be taken as hand luggage and fitted perfectly in the trunk. I took off the smaller day pack and kept my book etc with me and hid it under the seat in front of me. With a waist belt, although I'd packed enough for a couple of days, including toiletries and electronics, I wasn't overwhelmed. When I got on a plane or other places where you can't take a backpack, I removed part of the backpack and used the shoulder strap. It was something I had to stop and plan for, but it wasn't very onerous.
