I was used to laptop docking stations at work, so I knew exactly what to expect in terms of convenience and features. I bought this unit used, with a big discount. It was in excellent cosmetic condition and works as good as new, so why not? Basically I bought it because I don't want to *5* plug in cables every time I use my laptop at my desk. I used to manually connect these cables: video signal, USB wireless receiver, audio cable, power cable, Ethernet (faster than Wi-Fi). Now everyone just plugs all those peripherals into a docking station and just bangs on the laptop.
