They might have been a little loose, but not bad. My daughter has pretty slim legs. I was nervous about the strap chafing in the toe and ankle area, but the strap is loose enough and in a good spot where it doesn't rub. My daughter loves these shoes so much and would not wear them if they were uncomfortable. She smeared them with dirt, but wiped them off lightly.
