Balsam! I love pine trees so I'm picky! it is the most magnificent part of my table. the smell is GREAT! Fresh and perfect! the onion was not wrinkled or spoiled. I'm so happy. One person said they would save the tray to plant their own pine tree next year. What a great idea! Gießen: I made it too hard. Realizing that you only pour from above I was very impressed with the design. when I first got water in one of the candlesticks. Spring. the inserted napkin absorbed a small amount in two seconds. this is a masterpiece [for me because I love pine trees!] of my Christmas decorations. looks perfect on a dark green tablecloth with a red silk rug. COMPLETE, COMPLETE, SATISFIED. I could go on, but what more can I say. just buy one. You will be glad the size is as described, freshness is perfect, shipping was great, candles were perfect! I'm so happy great great UPDATE: needles fall off in a week no big deal just needs watering. it doesn't smell either. Damn. There is a small hole in the center of this holder to allow excess water to drain. keep pouring! I still can't water it exactly because of a lot of bits of pine, which is good, but I have to put it on a towel, water it and wait two full days before putting it back on the table. Today is casting day. I'll use less water and see what happens. Even after 3 weeks of use it still looks great. I just have to tend to those tiny pine needles. never mind.
