Review on πŸ”³ Frameless Atomic Venom Mask by Nick Cleary

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality mask. it didn't suit my face.

As a quick disclaimer, this was ordered with a Hollis M1 and a much cheaper option, the Cressi Lince - in my search for a better mask to avoid a terrible leak ruining the dive. Spoiler alert: I settled on the Hollis M1 but *really* wanted to keep it. TRANSMISSION/CLARITY: At first, the Venom Frameless appeared to be the next level in transmission/clarity. Supposedly the Hollis M1 claims a super high gear ratio, but this one simply squeezed it in eye test. Incredibly clear. VISIBILITY: Combined with the optical transparency (see above), the shape offers amazing visibility both laterally and vertically. It had the best view range, followed by the M1. Cressi basically had tunnel vision compared to both of them and fell immediately (not that it was a good fit anyway). MATERIALS: Again, Venom has definitely outperformed the M1 (and Cressi, of course). The material of the skirt was incredibly soft and high quality [feels]. Stylish design and overall cool look. COMFORT AND FIT: Unfortunately, the Venom let me down here. The seal was fine (not great) but more importantly the hard ridge on the bridge of my nose was painful and makes the mask fit easily in my studio. Unimaginable under water, under pressure. it really came down to Hollis M1 = no pain (and great pressure), Venom = pain. Actually I wanted to keep both. but I could never wear it comfortably. I hope they release a mask for my nose shape. I'm giving 5 stars overall because I think it's a great mask design, just not one that fits my face (this is not a manufacturing defect, just the nature of the masks. Some fit, some don't).
