They're good for correspondence, note-taking, journaling, and 1.9 is great for slightly larger cards. Some inks flow more freely than others, and this makes a big difference depending on what pen and paper you plan to use. The set comes in an attractive polished metal box with the Lamy Joy logo on the lid. Inside is a Joy pen, a cap, three ink tips, a box of cartridges, and a booklet that talks about the pen and shows you how to draw lines, although it doesn't include sample alphabets to copy. This set might be a bit more expensive than the ones you can find at the drug store or craft store, but you can write really smoothly with them without stuttering or scratching all over the paper.
