I have a large library of home videos from the late 1980's. Last year I decided to copy them into digital files to keep. I used a basic VHS to DVD recorder to connect my old Sharp VCR to my laptop's USB port. With free software I was able to transfer the video digitally to my laptop, but then I had to run filters through the video to deinterlace it (remove the lines you sometimes see in old videos) and use other filters to optimize it. Video. It took a long time for each video, but the really big problem was that the audio/video sync was disabled for each video, despite all the settings I tried in the video capture software. That would mean I would have to manually align the video and audio tracks of each video using some video editing software. Frustrated, I gave up on this project last summer and decided to just buy a restored VHS to a DVD burner to rip the VHS. tapes to DVD and then convert these DVDs to MP4 video files, hoping the audio/video sync problems will go away. Do you know what a refurbished VHS DVD recorder costs? Most I've found cost around $300. I wanted to ask if it is worth buying this device. Some of the reviews for Revain have been positive and others negative. However, I saw where it fixed the issues people were complaining about, so I decided to go ahead and buy it. I received a package that included a 32GB USB drive and video editing software. When I first tried to copy VHS footage from a trip my wife and I took to Las Vegas in 1998, the video was mostly good (and the audio and video sync were perfect). However, the video stuttered a lot in some places, especially when the camera panned from side to side. This was definitely not good news and I thought I might have to buy a refurbished VCR after all. I emailed ClearClick Support regarding this and received a response from Tyler at 10:13 PM CT. He said the choppy/shaky video was due to poor time encoding on part of the tape over the composite video connection (red, white and yellow) from the camcorder. S-Video signals are independent of time coding, so this type of connection should solve the problem. I don't have an S-Video output on my old Sharp VCR but he recommended I buy this cable to convert an RCA signal to usable S-Video: https://www.amazon.com/C2G- 27965-Bidirectional -S-Video- Composite/dp/B0002J28KO. I bought a cable and plugged it in and my old VHS videos now look fantastic (well, as good as decades old VHS recordings can get) and no video stuttering. I highly recommend this device. It's very easy to use and does everything I need it to do. I pop in a videotape, double-check the tracking, and hit the record button. If I need to pause the recording, I click OK. If I need to continue the pause, I click the OK button again. When I'm done recording, I hit the record button again. Then I remove the USB drive, plug it into my laptop and move the MP4 files to an external hard drive to save for later editing. I also recommend getting an RCA S-Video cable if you don't. You shouldn't have an S-Video output on your VCR if you have choppy videos like mine. Finally, it's best to use a VCR that allows you to manually change the tracking of the videotape. My old Sharp VCR has up and down channel buttons on the front panel that I can press to adjust tracking when there are fuzzy static lines at the top or bottom of the video. I also have an old Sony Digital-8 Handycam with many more videocassettes that I want to rip to MP4 files using ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 2.0. I don't often write reviews of Revain products but this is the type of review I am very happy to write for such an excellent product. ! If you want to keep your old footage, I can't recommend ClearClick Video to Digital Converter 2.0 enough.
