September 2018 I signed up for my second 10k race in March 2019. I did something to my ankle on Thanksgiving. I really have no idea what. To be honest, I don't remember walking off the curb or into the hole the wrong way - it really was a mystery. I rested, cooled and climbed for a couple of weeks. I was limping so badly you'd think I'd broken my ankle. They even took an x-ray of my ankle and said there was no serious damage, just a little swelling in the muscles. It was such a shame to want to train and not be able to! I've never had an injury that lasted so long. The pain went on and on and it became so discouraging that weeks turned into months of not being able to walk. I ordered this ankle brace because I was desperate and about to cancel the race. I was so excited to get it and decided to do a very slow, easy run. While the compression felt great and like a hug around my ankle, I was still in so much pain that I had to start walking. I cried in frustration and was just plain angry. I was discouraged but didn't want to give up. I wore it around the house and to the gym, did light cardio and walked short distances. When it got to the point where I actually had to think about which ankle was injured, I knew it was time to try running again. (Approximately 2-3 weeks later). I could walk a short distance without stopping. It was a small win but just what I needed. I gradually increased the distance, and then the pain went away. I ran my 10K and am very surprised at how far I got. I went from limping and my husband actually offered to buy me an electric wheelchair while we were visiting the theme park to kick my 10k*ss. Now I wear it regularly and definitely whenever I run.
