I had a similar flashlight a few years ago and it worked well. This one looks great and the retractable fork is a nice design improvement over the previous ones. I plugged it in and turned off the power at the outlet for Christmas and it was just what I was looking for. a bright enough light that would brighten up the area once one of those pesky power outages happened. The keyword in my last sentence is "was". I plugged the device into an outlet in the lobby at the top of the stairs (ideal location). and it stayed that way until I showed the guest my "wonderful" household appliance. There is no light at all. and no matter what I did - on the 10th day life ended (and I doubt my guest was impressed). Please don't waste your money on this device. Regular flashlights are just better - and the battery tech has improved so the plugin is really just a gimmick (which I fell for)
