What I like best about this lens is its size and weight. There are many wide-angle lenses. Although many come close to the focal length of this lens, it can be very large and heavy, and many times more expensive. The Laowa 17mm f1.8 is a small and compact lens. However, it gives you a sharp and clear image. And because of its size, you can easily mount the camera on a gimbal and get very consistent results. I also have a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 for the EF mount. I use it with a Metabones adapter on my BMPCC4K camera. This is a fantastic lens. But it's also huge. With a Laowa lens I can shoot great handheld or with a stabilizer and get great results.
